Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs

...is the fourth installation in the Mercedes Thompson series. This book picks up right where the previous book, Iron Kissed, left off. "Mercy" the shape-shifting coyote is still coping with the tragic events that were the climax of the previous book. Mercy is not only dealing with emotional issues, she is also learning how to balance her life as the mate of the Alpha of the local werewolf pack, Adam Hauptman and her increasingly uncomfortable interactions with the local vampire queen, Marsilia. Briggs takes the reader on a fast-paced ride as Mercy is approached by an old-friend and asked to fend-off a ghost that has taken up residence in her home. Mercy leaves the comfort and protection of her new werewolf family and heads to Spokane, Wash., where she meets an unexpected and scary situation.

Although Patricia Briggs' novels aren't skillfully written they are interesting and filled with fun. The interaction with the vampires is always edge of your seat fantastic and Mercy has a wit that is enjoyed by most readers of this series. If you enjoy a book that is easy to read and slim on characterization then the Mercedes Thompson series might be your new good read.

NEW HARDCOVERS

Bone Crossed (Mercy Thompson Series #4), by Patricia Briggs - Upon reading the last paragraph of Briggs' third book in this series (Iron Kissed), I couldn't wait for the next installment. What remains interesting is the fact that I refuse to pay $24.95 for the Hardcover copy of this book. Although, I have enjoyed the series thus far, I would rather wait for the less expensive paperback version. Thank goodness for the back cover summary!! Oh, and congratulations to Mrs. Briggs for achieving hardcover status!!

Miss Thompson is preparing to marry alpha werewolf Adam Hauptman when she is asked to help scare an unfriendly ghost. Mercy accepts the task. This will remove her from the snares of vampire queen Marsilia and take her mind off of the stresses of her upcoming nuptials. I'm sure this is where the action begins! As Thompson fans know, wherever Mercy goes, trouble and drama always follow. I'm very excited to read this book. If I could just stop being a cheapskate!!

Breakneck by Erica Spindler - New York Times best selling author Erica Spindler is back on the scene with this January 2009 release. Detective Kitt Lundgren and her partner, Mary Catherine Riggio are led deep into cyberspace to catch a heartless killer. The hunt is personal for Mary Catherine because her cousin Tommy Mariano is the first victim in this maddening killing spree. This is Spindler's first attempt at cyber fiction and i'm sure she doesn't disappoint.

I actually have this book propped up on my headboard. It shouts, "read me, read me" every morning and every night. I'm getting to it...

IRON KISSED

Iron Kissed, Patricia Briggs - In this last installment of the Mercy Thompson series, Mercy, our friendly shape shifting coyote, finds herself, yet again, immersed in the supernatural world. Someone is killing fae and Ms. Thompson soon finds herself mixed up in a bunch of mayhem and foolishness (thanks Niecy Nash!) while trying to clear her friend Zee's good name. While Zee sits in jail, Mercy is followed by a magic stick, chased by a swamp monster and attacked by a magic stealing geek. She also chooses a mate, finally! Will it be Adam or Samuel? Her final decision will have you asking for more. I didn't absolutely love this book but I did enjoy it. I became bored with the redundant mentioning of the Alpha's power and dominance and tails wagging between legs and ya da, ya da. I know Adam is the Alpha, I know. Overall I enjoyed this series and will continue to read them if Patricia continues writing them.

♥♥♥ - I like it!

The Moon Is Calling For You!

Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, Book #1), Patricia Briggs - "My body is calling for you. I can hear you calling babe!" Doesn't the title of this blog entry remind you of an old R. Kelly song? I don't like R. Kelly anymore, he's got some issues!! Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Mercedes Thompson, better known as Mercy, is a shape shifter. Unlike her moon bound wolf friends, she can change into a coyote at will. Yes, I said a coyote. Her mom is human and her dad was also a shape shifter. Her mother went to her crib one morning and found a coyote pup. Can you imagine? I read this book because of all the awesome reviews on Goodreads.com. I will not tell a lie, I was thoroughly disappointed. I just couldn't get into the characters or the dialogue. It was utterly boring and took sheer force to read through to the end. I had to ask a friend to read it just to confirm my craziness but she agreed with me on this one. She couldn't find any love for it either. Don't get me wrong, there were some high points in the book but they were few and far between.

♥♥ - just a touch of love!
