Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs

...is the fourth installation in the Mercedes Thompson series. This book picks up right where the previous book, Iron Kissed, left off. "Mercy" the shape-shifting coyote is still coping with the tragic events that were the climax of the previous book. Mercy is not only dealing with emotional issues, she is also learning how to balance her life as the mate of the Alpha of the local werewolf pack, Adam Hauptman and her increasingly uncomfortable interactions with the local vampire queen, Marsilia. Briggs takes the reader on a fast-paced ride as Mercy is approached by an old-friend and asked to fend-off a ghost that has taken up residence in her home. Mercy leaves the comfort and protection of her new werewolf family and heads to Spokane, Wash., where she meets an unexpected and scary situation.

Although Patricia Briggs' novels aren't skillfully written they are interesting and filled with fun. The interaction with the vampires is always edge of your seat fantastic and Mercy has a wit that is enjoyed by most readers of this series. If you enjoy a book that is easy to read and slim on characterization then the Mercedes Thompson series might be your new good read.

1st To Die

1st To Die (Women's Murder Club Series #1), James Patterson - Four women share a passion to stop a killer who is murdering newlyweds in the Bay Area. Each woman has her own expertise to contribute to this crime fighting club, the Women's Murder Club. Lindsay Boxer is a homicide inspector with the San Francisco Police Department, her best friend, Claire Washburn is a medical examiner, Cindy Thomas works for the San Francisco Chronicle and Jill Bernhardt is an assistant District Attorney. Working together and using their experience and knowledge to track down a heartless killer forges a bond between these women that cannot be broken.

The subplot of the story is Lindsay learning to cope with her life threatening blood disease, falling in love again and catching a killer. The combination takes its toll on Lindsay and there are times when it seems she will have to throw in the towel. The subplot balances the horrors of the book in a subtle and appropriate way. There isn't too much romance or drama, just enough to keep the reader turning pages in pursuit of the outcome.

Once again, Patterson keeps the reader turning pages with his short chapters and fast paced storytelling. I enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading the next book in this series, 2nd Chance.

♥♥♥♥-Great!
